Background

The problem

“Enablement” meant different things to different leaders — some saw it as training, some as content, some as ops. Without a charter, the function would have been pulled in five directions and accomplished none of them.

The approach

Built a one-page charter that defined: the audience the function serves, what success looks like, what’s explicitly out of scope, and how decisions get made when priorities collide. Got executive sign-off before hiring.

Why it mattered

Charters look bureaucratic until you’ve watched a function fail without one. This single document cut hours of meetings every quarter and made every later decision about scope cleaner.

Outcome

Established a function with a clear mandate that the executive team aligned to. Used as a reference document for hiring into the team.
